Re-creation of Ballets Russes

Re-creation of Ballets Russes

[ July 2013 ] There was an event which re-created Ballets Russes which took the world by storm in Paris in early 20th century.

It was at London Coliceum and the program of the day I went were “The Firebird” and “Scheherazade”.

They made the costumes faithfully to the original ones and some were rather funny.

But what people were looking forward to was Nikolay Tsiskaridze who danced Golden Slave in Scheherazade.

He was a top dancer in Bolshoi, but when the incident that the artistic director had acid on him happened, Tsiskaridze was suspected as the one who pulled the strings, and sacked from Bolshoi.

All the curiosity and expectation of the audience were on him and  people got surprised when he appeared on the stage, because he was so fat! Even on his back, the fat was abvious from my seat.

Nonetheless, he danced very well, but I am sure all of his fans got disappointed.
