King’s refuge

King’s refuge

[ May, 2013] The last place we went with the south German castle tour was Linderhof castle.

This is one of the three castles which Ludwig Ⅱ, the king of Bavarian Kingdom built.

He particularly liked this castle and towards end of his life (he died when he was only 40), he stayed here a lot.

It is a small castle, but luxurious, copied Versailles in France which he adored. He worshiped Louis14th as the ideal king and there are statues of this French king in this castle.

Another thing worth mentioning is the fountain whose water jets out up to 30 metres high every 30 minutes.

No electricity is used for this.

The location of this castle shows Ludwig’s character.

It is hidden among hills and you cannot see it until actually you are there.

He hated the society in Munich and all of his castles are far away from the capital, close to Austrian border.

His misanthropy is so bad that his foods were prepared on a table in the kitchen downstairs and there was a mechanism to pull the table up to his dining room so that he did not have to meet his servants.
