In between sightseeing, we had ice tea

[ July2016 ] We continued our sightseeing in Riga. After ‘Three Brothers’ we came across Our Lady of Sorrows Church, so we went in. It is a Catholic church built in the late 18th century. They were having a baptism. I noticed that there was a copy of the “The Sistine Madonna”. Riga Castle was close to this church, but we did not enter there because it looked an ordinary building like the one in Bratislava. Apparently the History Museum of Latvia is in there.

By this time, we were quite tired, so decided to get back by taxi. But we could not find any taxis and instead, we found a sign for ice tea. The cafe was at the end of this yellow building in the photo and run by one oriental man, who looked Japanese, but I was not sure. We refreshed ourselves with the cold sweet green tea.

Now we had our energy back, so we continued our sightseeing. We saw the Swedish Gate, which was built in 1698 when Riga was under Sweden’s control, and Powder Power, a brick tower which was built in the 14th century and now houses the Museum of War. We walked back to the hotel and on the way, we also saw the Freedom Monument built in 1935 from a distance.
