Pink House

Pink House

[ Jan.2016 ] In Buenos Aires there is a Pink House and it is literally pink.

In Spanish it is called Casa Rosada and it is the official residence of the President of Argentina.

The reason why it is pink is said that because President Salmiento who was inaugurated in 1868 wanted to unite the country using the blend of two colours of the two rival factions, red which was the Federarists’ colour and white, the colour of the Unitarians.

But in fact this is only a legend, said our local guide, Jeremy.

He said “the strong and easily obtained building materials in those days happened to be pink”.

The famous Evita, whose real name is Eva Peron, addressed the public from the balcony here.

She was born as an illegitimate in a small village and rose to become the first lady of the country.

She was involved in politics herself, but died young at the age of 33 because of cancer.

Madonna stood and sang at the same balcony when they filmed “Evita”, too.
