After 409 Steps

After 409 Steps

[ Oct.2015 ] We saw this view after climbing up 409 steps.

This is the top of the tower of the huge St. Mary’s Church in Gdansk in Poland.

This is the world’s largest brick church, which is 105 metres long and 66 metres wide.

The height of the tower is 78 metres.

25,000 people can fit easily in the church, apparently.

They started building it in 1343 and completed it in 1502.

It was originally a Catholic church but in 1572 it became a Protestant church.

The inside is white now, but it was covered in frescoes in the past.

To climb up the tower, you have to pay 6 zloty.

The first part of the staircase was spiral, which was very hard to go up for me.

Then it became wider and more comfortable stairs, but it was very long.

The space at the top was smaller than I expected and there were safety nets, so the view was a bit restricted for a small person like me.

But I had a great sense of achievement anyway.

When we came back down, we found ourselves standing inside the church.

If you do not go up the tower, you have to pay to enter the church.
