the restaurant with the good reputation (Gdansk - Poland)

the restaurant with the good reputation

[ Aug.2016 ] On the first night in Gdansk in Poland, we went to the restaurant called Gdanski Bowke by the river, which had a good reputation in the internet sites.

The table the waiter ushered us first was near the toilet and my mother said ” I don’t like it”, so we got the better table near the window.

It is a good thing that she complained.

For the starter, we shared a crayfish dish and a chicken liver dish.

The meat of the crayfish was small but it was  very red and looked good.

The liver tasted so good that I regretted that we shared.

For the main dish, I chose smoked boar with a sweet sauce, possibly cranberry.

I was very satisfied with that.

After sharing the desserts, we had a glass of spirits they recommended, called Goldwasser Poland, Gdansk - Gdanski Bowke restaurant, Gold Wasser, Aug.2016(gold water) which contained gold foils.

It tasted like anise.

Apparently, this is a medicinal beverage created in the 16th century.

According to the local guidebook, Bowske, the name of this restaurant, means those casual labourers before the second world war, who were getting some work from the quayside tradesmen and spent their earnings immediately in the pubs.

They were the important part of the life in Gdansk in those days.Poland, Gdansk - Gdanski Bowke restaurant, sailing boats, Aug.2016

So the interior of this restaurant is designed as if this was the port tavern before the war.

The restaurant is fairly new established in 2012, though.

This place was a bookshop before that.
