Vast salt lake

Vast salt lake

[ Dec.2008 ] After enjoying shopping in Tozeur, south of Tunisia, we moved to Douz, a town even more south.

On the way, we stopped at a vast salt lake called Chotto el Jerid.

They said that it is as large as 5000 square kilometres.

When we were there, it was dried up and almost no water there, so it was rather an empty ground than a lake.

It was first time for me to see this kind of view, though a few years later, I saw another one in Turkey.

I picked up some ground and tasted it, of course it was very salty.

There was a sign saying 150 kilometres to Algeria and I remember feeling ” we came all the way…”.
