Malta may be one of Europe’s smallest countries, but it offers an extraordinary concentration of history, culture and natural beauty. Located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, this island nation has been a strategic crossroads for thousands of years, attracting Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, the Knights of St. John, the French and the British. Each civilisation has left its mark, creating a fascinating blend of architectural styles, traditions and cultural influences. Today Malta is a destination where ancient history, crystal-clear waters and a relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle come together in a unique travel experience.
Most visitors begin their journey in Valletta, the capital, whose entire historic centre is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by the Knights of St. John, the city is famous for its impressive fortifications, elegant palaces, St. John’s Co-Cathedral and spectacular views over the Grand Harbour. Nearby, the ancient walled city of Mdina, known as the “Silent City”, offers a completely different atmosphere with its narrow medieval streets and timeless charm. Coastal towns such as Sliema and St. Julian’s represent modern Malta, while the islands of Gozo and Comino are renowned for their dramatic cliffs, picturesque villages and turquoise waters that attract swimmers, divers and nature lovers from around the world. Malta is also home to some of the world’s oldest free-standing temples, built thousands of years before the Egyptian pyramids.
During our travels we discovered a country whose size is no reflection of its richness. Walking through Valletta’s historic streets, exploring Mdina, visiting prehistoric temples and enjoying breathtaking coastal scenery allowed us to experience a destination where every corner tells a story. Malta’s mild climate, welcoming atmosphere and remarkable cultural heritage make it an enjoyable destination throughout the year.
