Brasov

Brașov is one of Romania’s most beautiful cities and the historic heart of Transylvania. Surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, it combines medieval architecture, colourful squares and spectacular natural scenery. With its charming old town and strategic location, Brașov is the perfect base for exploring some of Romania’s most famous castles and mountain landscapes.

The city’s historic centre revolves around Council Square (Piața Sfatului), a lively medieval square lined with colourful buildings, cafés and restaurants. Just a short walk away stands the impressive Black Church, the largest Gothic church in Romania and one of the country’s most important landmarks. Visitors can also explore the medieval fortifications, Catherine’s Gate, Șchei Gate and the famous Rope Street, one of the narrowest streets in Europe.

One of Brașov’s highlights is Mount Tâmpa, which can be reached on foot or by cable car. From the summit, visitors enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over the old town and the surrounding Carpathian Mountains, together with the iconic Brașov sign overlooking the city.

Brașov is also an excellent starting point for discovering Bran Castle, famously linked to the Dracula legend, the magnificent Peleș Castle in Sinaia and the medieval fortress of Râșnov. These attractions make the region one of Romania’s most rewarding travel destinations.
