[ Mar.2014 ] Toledo in Spain is the place where the Greek painter, El Greco lived and there are a lot of his paintings.
In Iglesia de Santo Tome, there is the famous “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz”.
This was painted latter half of 1580s and it depicts the scene of the legend that when the Count of Orgaz was buried about 250 years before this painting, Sts Stephen and Augustine came down from heaven.
There is a lot of attendance painted and each one was a real person having lived in those days apparently, which is the main attraction of this painting.
El Greco himself and Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote are among them.
Unfortunately the taking photos were prohibited.
This photo is the sign to show the entrance of the church, but this boy is one of the people in the painting and it is said that he is the son of El Greco.
All those depicted people…a bit like being tagged in Facebook, maybe?
By the way, in a souvenir shop outside, they were selling a mini skirt of the print of this painting itself.
Well the painting was wonderful, but to wear it ….?
