Excellent restaurants and walking tours of the medina

[Jan. 2026] After strolling around the harbour in Essaouira, a town on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, we looked for a restaurant called Restaurant Du Coeur in town.

Restaurant Du Coeur is a seafood restaurant.

My husband found it online and it had good reviews.

When we arrived, it was a small place and there was no one inside, which made me a little uneasy, but it turned out to be quite good.

For starters, we ordered and shared an octopus salad and an anchovy salad.

Both were simple salads with avocado and seafood on top, but delicious.

Especially the octopus.

For the main course, I chose grilled sea bream.

This was also simple and the flavour of the ingredients was strong, which was good.

It came with a side of stir-fried vegetables and rice.

I was relieved that it didn’t have any strange spices often found in ethnic cuisine.

My husband had monkfish and saffron rice.

This was also apparently delicious, and he seemed satisfied.

It would have been perfect with a cold white wine, but unfortunately, the drink was Sprite.

It was near the end of our Morocco trip, and we had gotten quite used to meals without wine, but the tastier the food, the more it felt like a waste.

The total bill was around 450 dirhams (about 42 euros).

After the meal, we strolled around the medina and did some shopping.

First, on a slightly out-of-the-way street, we were drawn to a large red kilim rug on display, and when we asked if they had smaller ones, we ended up buying two cushion covers.

In previous trips to Morocco, I always bought one or two carpets, but this time, I settled for just these cushion covers.

Then, on a corner of the main street, we bought argan oil cream and some wooden ornaments.

The medina, with its white walls, blue doors, and blue sky, is picturesque.

There were many tourists, but the streets were wide, and it wasn’t as crowded as Fez or Marrakesh, making it easy to walk around.

The wind was strong, but it was warm and pleasant.

In fact, we saw people already swimming in the sea.

When we returned to the port to meet our driver, Youssuf, there were many people enjoying kitesurfing on the beach.

We were only there for a few hours, but Essaouira seemed like a peaceful and relaxing town.

I thought it would be nice to stay in this town for a night or two.
