[ Sept.2013 ] One of the places we looked for in Ermoupoli in Syros was a church called Kimisis tis Theotokou, which has got a painting by famous painter El Greco.
His religious painting itself was small and I did not get moved particularly, but an old woman there said a short blessing for us — I do not understand Greek language at all, so I did not understand what she said, but she was not pushy and I was somewhat grateful.
I wanted to know more about this church and looked it up in the internet and found there are some churches with the same name in the US.
That reminded me of two people we shared a bus to a hotel at the beginning of the holiday, who were Americans but spoke Greek fluently.
They were offspring of some emigrants from Greece to the US.
