A day when we couldn’t achieve any of our goals ②

[July 2024] During our summer holiday on the island of Ischia in southern Italy, we planned to eat rabbit dishes and watch the sunset on the beach on that day.

However, due to a series of disappointments, we were unable to accomplish both of these things and this is the second part of the day.

After eating at a high-class restaurant in Forio, we headed to Citara Beach this time, determined to do it.

We were glad that we got there safely by bus, but Citara Beach turned out to be the beach that is an extension of the private beach of the hot spring facility Poseidon, which we had visited a few days earlier.

Oh no…

When we asked at the parasol shop there, a parasol by the water’s edge was a whopping €60!

The next line was €50, and if we went further away from the water’s edge, it was €40.

That’s a rip-off.

Because we arrived late, they gave us a discount from €40 to €30.

It hadn’t been long since lunch, so we didn’t go in the sea for a while, but instead basked in the sun on a deck chair.

Then, when we went near the water’s edge to go in, the waves were very strong.

And the water suddenly got deeper.

The receding waves were so powerful that we felt like we were going to be swept away.

During this holiday, my legs were not feeling well, and I was wearing glasses, so I gave up and just dipped my feet in the water before retreating.

behind this church was the best place for watching the sunset

So, this day we didn’t get to enjoy the pleasant bathing that is so typical of summer vacation.

Also, this parasol shop was only open until 6:30.

My husband looked it up, and found out that the sun sets around 8:30.

So we couldn’t enjoy the sunset here.

This was the umpteenth disappointment of the day.

So we gave up and returned to Folio.

But we were able to see a beautiful sunset at Folio.

The best place was behind the church at the tip of the road that we visited a few days ago.

The combination of the softly floating clouds and the setting sun was amazing.

There wasn’t much reflection on the sea, though, and I wonder why that was.

On the way back from here, we stopped at a pub-like place in the basement called Vino & Co. and had some wine and a variety of bruschetta.

The wooden Swiss-style (?) interior made it easy to forget that it was midsummer.

The bruschetta was delicious.

It looked like a wine shop, but they also sold sweets.

It was a little creepy that there were no other customers, but the food was delicious and the bill was only €28, a bargain.

It was a day of disappointments, but all’s well that ends well.
