Economy in islands

Economy in islands

[ Aug.2013 ] Greece is famous for its financial collapse and caused a lot of problems for the world economy.

One time the demonstrations of people were broadcast nearly everyday.

But here in Santorini or Mykonos, there were so many tourists from all over the world that it seemed the recession was irrelevant for them.

But ” I shouldn’t say this, but the level of tourists have changed” said a lady owner of an accessory shop in Fira in Santorini.

According to her, more poor young people visit there than before.

Also, because steep increase of tourists from a country which worship international famous brands, the money does not stay in Greece.

On top of that, she is annoyed that rude tourists are increasing.

Apparently Japanese are good customers for her, but she said ” there are not so many Japanese tourists here”.

When I asked about the business of this summer to a hotel staff in Mykonos, he said ” it is good this year” and one moment later, ” But the good time was only this one month.

It used to last 4 months”.

Although it looked thriving, in fact, some changes are happening.
