Experience a Different Culture in London

Experience a Different Culture in London

[ July, 2015 ] There is a town called Southall between central London and Heathrow Airport.

I knew that a lot of Indian immigrants live here, but I had never been there.

We visited there for the first time.

Surely, there is quite a different atmosphere from other areas in London.

Most of the people were wearing colourful outfits.

In fact, I came here to make one of those Shalwar Kameez for myself.

We were with our friend who was born in England but her parents are Indian.

She helped me to choose the fabric.

At first, I was overwhelmed by the strong colours and showy patterns, but gradually my eyes got used to them and I realised what sort of thing I wanted.

Here, a Shalwar Kameez is called a ‘suit’.

I learned that the fabric for the suit and the fabric for the Sari are different, though I cannot tell which one is which.

We decided to have it made in the same shop in which I bought the fabric.

I am looking forward to the result.

On top of that, we chose glittery accessories to go with the suit.

Of course, real gold is out of our price range, so everything was fake, but there were so many and it was very difficult to choose.

So I kept quiet and just followed what our friend said.

By the way, she was talking to the shop people in Punjabi.

I wonder if the Indians in Southall are mainly from the Punjab area.
