[ Aug.2015 ] This is one of the two outstanding churches in Helsinki, in Finland.
It was completed in 1868 and it is the largest Russian Orthodox Church in Western Europe.
Surely, it was big.
Because it is one of the main tourist attractions in the city, when we arrived, one Japanese group was just about leaving and one Chinese group had just arrived.
So, as you can imagine, the inside of the church was full of tourists.
According to my guide book, if you attend a service, you can experience a lovely solemn atmosphere with the beautiful choir, on the other hand.
Because it is an Orthodox church, there were many icons.
Apparently, one of the valuable ones was stolen in the summer of 2007 in broad daylight when there were many tourists.
Maybe because there are so many people, it is easier to steal one.
By the way, I felt that the name, Uspenski, was familiar, so tried hard to remember and found it.
The cave monastery we went to in Crimea, in Ukraine, was Uspenski, too.
