[ Dec.2016 ] The end of our hiking from the beautiful town of Barichara was the village called Guane.
After the hard walking (for me) finally we arrived in this village which was the smaller and simpler version of Barichara.
First, we went into a cafe which was housed in a traditional house.
We took a table on the corridor facing the courtyard and I had a glass of fresh passion fruit juice.
My husband chose mango juice.
They both were impressively tasty.
Generally speaking, the fruits in Colombia were very good.
Every morning we ate very tasty papaya.
After coming back to London, we found papaya at the supermarket and bought some only to be disappointed.
Although the fruits were so good, our guide and interpreter drank beer.
Actually when we stopped at a farm house during our walk, they drank beer there, too, though they were really nice people.
The place we visited in Guane was Santa Lucia Iglesia, a simple church.
Our guide book says it was built in 1720, but according to our guide, Oswaldo, it was built in 1963.
Maybe it was rebuilt.
Oswaldo said that every two years, some students who learn how to repair historic buildings come from Rome to maintain this church.
Santa Lucia is the saint who cures eye diseases and there was a statue of her carrying two eyeballs, which was amazingly kitsch.
Another place to visit in Guane is an archaeological museum, but we did not go there and came back to Barichara by a taxi Oswaldo hired.
Oswaldo seemed to know this driver, but his driving was awful, so fast and so rough that my husband kept his eyes shut.
Maybe this driver had some beer, too.
