[ May, 2015 ] The last place we went to on the tour out of Taipei in Taiwan was Jingtong.
This is the last stop of Pingxi Line, which we took up to Shifen.
The station is made of wood in retro style and the surrounding area has a lovely old fashioned atmosphere.
It is just like the town we saw earlier this year in the Ramen Museum in Yokohama, Japan.
At first, I thought the wooden station was not used any more, but in fact it is still a properly functioning station and there was a station attendant there.
By the way, around here it seemed a custom to write your wish onto a bamboo pipe and hang it.
There were countless bamboo pipes hanging all over the place.
A sign said that this was a custom after a romantic real love story between a railway worker and an ice lolly shop assistant in the 1960s.
Taiwanese people love praying to God for help in many ways, like the sky lantern in Shifen or the way they pray in Longshan Temple, in Taipei.
One of my family members said “I feel a bit sorry for them”.
