[ Dec.2013 ] We went to Kawagoe in Saitama prefecture in Japan as I heard that there were rows of old houses left as old time.
There were more than 30 old warehouse style houses, which was impressive.
This place was not created for tourists but they were there originally.
I could see that because the road they faced was a very busy one with a lot of cars.
There were a lot of souvenir shops as expected, but also a traditional Japanese knife shop and a nostalgic sort of clothes shop, too.
Apparently this type of houses increased after a disastrous fire in 1893, because many of the houses which had not been burned down were warehouse style ones.
We visited only the main street, but apparently there are other places to visit like ‘sweet shops area’ and many shrines and temples.
On top of that, I enjoyed the shopping street stretched from the railway station to this traditional houses area.
Probably this was one of the typical shopping streets in Japan, but when I took some photos, they looked very Asian, like a street in Korea or somewhere.
