[ Jan.2016 ] We flew to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina on the next day.
When we went out of the airport, in front of us, there was the sea …
but no, it was La Plata river.
The width of the river around here is apparently as much as 40 km.
The colour was like cappuccino.
Our hotel was facing the road called ‘9th of July’ whose width is the largest in the world, it has 8 lanes each (photo).
The 9th of July is their independence day which happened in 1816.
There were some islands here and there in the road and to cross this road all the way we often had to wait for the traffic lights twice.
But in the past, there were no islands and only cars were running according to our tour leader.
There was an obelisk in the road and our hotel was near there.
This obelisk was built in 1936 to commemorate the 400th year of the first foundation of the city and the height is 67.5 metres.
After every football match, the supporters of the winning team get together here to celebrate.
By the way, Buenos Aires is sometimes called the “Paris of South America”.
Some of the buildings were really like the ones in Paris.
