Cave Monastery in Kiev

Cave Monastery in Kiev

[September, 2011] The Cave Monastery in Kiev (Kiev Pechersk Lavra) was founded in 11th century, but in the Soviet era it was broken, so recently they rebuilt it.

So the new golden domes were shining against the blue sky.

The tour of this complex was separated from the other part of the city tour.

We could not see why it was ‘cave’, but learned that the beginning of this monastery was by a monk, who came from Athos in Greece where we visited only about one month ago, started setting up the religious site in the cave around here.

This complex is one of the World Heritage in Ukraine.
