[ July, 2014 ] Cathedral of St.
James in Sibenik in Croatia is listed as a World Heritage.
They started building it in 1431 and it took 105 years to complete it.
They say that as a church which was made only of stone without any bricks or wood frames, this is the largest in the world.
During 105 years, many designers were involved, but the local architect called Juraj Dalmatinac created the main parts such as the dome and the baptistery, so this church is regarded as his masterpiece.
The most interesting thing was the 71 faces on the outside wall.
They had various expressions and looked like some characters in a drama, but they were the real people existed in the 15th century, who donated money for building the cathedral.
Apparently the faces of those who were mean were made rather gross.
By the way, the Japanese leaflet I received here was quite good.
Around the outside wall of the cathedral, there were some vendors.
One of them looked very old and frail and she was selling postcards.
Nowadays I do not buy any postcards usually, but because I wondered if her life was not easy, I bought one.
