[June 2012] We visited Chesters Fort, one of the forts along the Hadrian’s Wall in the north of England.
Here, there is a ruin of a bath house near the river, away from the main barracks.
The photo is the changing room of the bath.
Roman people thought a lot of men living together was a risk of diseases, so to keep up the hygiene, they build the bath houses.
Some of them had a hospital as an annex.
They seemed to have had a sauna and a steam room.
It must have been a nice spa.
