Zojoji

Zojoji

[ Jan.2015 ] When we were walking towards Tokyo Tower, we came across a grand temple.

That was Zojoji.

Only a few days before, we went to Tanjoji and that was a main temple of Nichiren sect of Japanese Buddhism.

And this Zojoji is the main temple of Jodo sect.

It has got a long history since 1393 and in 1590, Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of Tokugawa Shogunage decided this temple to be his family temple.

We were in a hurry so we could not look very much, but I was intrigued by the row of o-jizo-san, stone statues which are daities for children.

They all looked very pretty with red hats and winmills.

I took many photos of them.
