[ Apr.2014 ] Sinaia in Romania is famous for Peles Castle, which was the royal villa for summer for Carol the first, the first king in Romania.
They started building this castle in 1875 and it took 39 year to finish it.
They said that there are 160 rooms and every room was gorgeous, but they looked comfortable enough compared with Windsor Castle in England for example.
It is a modern castle, having the central heating and lifts.
I could live there, really.
To enter the castle we all had to wear shoe covers, which I thought very civilized.
Carol the first was a German, so the design of the castle was quite German.
But why was the king of Romania a German? My friend told me “There was not a royal family in Romania and we wanted one, so advertised for a king.
Only this one was applied for it”.
That is very interesting! I have never heard that a king job was advertised, though of course there must have been more complicated issues surrounding it.
This king loved Romania and he was loved by the people here, apparently.
Inside the castle is like this.
