Lunch in Nervi

Lunch in Nervi

[Nov. 2025] While strolling around Nervi in Liguria, northern Italy, we sat on a bench just as the main street neared its end.

the unassuming exterior but it is a very good restaurant

And my husband started searching online for a place to grab a bite.

Surprisingly, we noticed a trattoria right in front of us.

It was called La Ruota, and according to online reviews, it seemed to have a good reputation.

However, it looked like it was about to close.

So my husband decided to ask, and when he finally did, he was invited in and we settled in.

It had the atmosphere of a traditional trattoria, and it was very nice.

Since we had just had an aperitif at a hotel in Santa Margherita Ligure, we both only had main courses here.

I ordered the original Spada alla Ruota, their signature dish.

The main element was swordfish, served in a cream sauce mixed with salmon and mushrooms.

The salmon flavour of the sauce was very strong and very delicious.

It wasn’t as heavy as it looked, either.

My husband ordered a Baccala’ dish called Stoccafisso.

It had a yellowish colour, probably due to the saffron.

I tasted a little of it, which was also very delicious.

We had wine by the glass and coffee, and the total came to €51.

We were very satisfied.

We were fortunate to find this place.

With our stomach full, we headed home.

We arrived at Piazza Principe, one of Genoa’s main stations, from Nervi Station.

After some confusion on the unfamiliar underground platform, we returned to Milan on the 4:19 PM Intercity train.
