We did not plan to go, but..

[Jan. 2025] It was a nice day for New Year’s in Sorrento, southern Italy.

So, although we hadn’t planned on going to Capri, we went.

It may seem disrespectful to Capri, which is ranked 14th in the top 100 tourist destinations in Italy, to say so.

We had originally planned to go to Positano by bus, but there were only people gathering at the bus stop in front of the station, and no buses were coming.

I don’t know how someone investigated, but the word spread among people that “it seems that the buses are not running today.”

There was just no information.

We had returned by boat from Amalfi to Sorrento a few days earlier, so we thought we might be able to go to Positano by boat, so we went to the port.

And we found that the only boat running was to Capri.

So we decided to go to Capri.

We arrived on Capri, but there were no shops open, so we immediately boarded a tourist boat that went around the island.

It literally went around the island, and took about an hour.

It was not cheap, at €23 per person, but in a situation like this, you can’t afford to be choosy.

There was a guide on the boat in Italian and English, but the sound was not very good, so I couldn’t concentrate.

Capri is known for its Blue Grotto, but it was closed on New Year’s Day, which was a shame.

I had seen it once before, and it was so mysterious and beautiful that I wanted to show it to my husband.

Well, Lake Tazawa in Japan is pretty impressive, too, though.

The Green Grotto that we saw instead this time was also beautiful.

The colour of the sea really looked like an emerald.

I wonder if people would jump in here in the summer.

Then there’s the famous Faraglioni Rocks of Capri.

It’s a sight that is worth seeing, the three rocks rising up from the sea.

The middle rock, Mezzo, has a beautifully shaped arch.

It’s such a perfect shape that my husband wondered if it was made by human hands.

From what I’ve researched, it seems to be a natural creation, though.

There’s also a legend that if you pass under it while kissing, you will find eternal love.

The view was so beautiful that we were able to take lots of great photos.
