British pub lunch

British pub lunch

[Aug. 2024] We went to Greenwich in East London on a sightseeing boat and arrived just at lunchtime.

My husband said that since we were in England, he wanted to eat fish and chips, so we searched online and found a pub called Trafalgar Tavern.

It was on the river and not far from the dock, so we decided on this pub.

It seems to be a pub with a history dating back to 1837.

When we arrived, we found it was a fairly large pub restaurant.

Some people were already seated and drinking at the tables outside, but we were the first to arrive at the indoor restaurant.

We settled at a table by the river.

Of course, my husband ordered fish and chips, while I decided to spend a bit and ordered a fillet steak.

However, this steak was good at first, but it quickly cooled down and lost its flavour.

I think they probably left my steak alone until the other dishes were ready after cooking it.

There was no sign of the plate being warmed up.

This reminded me of our experience in Spain.

My husband’s fish and chips were fine and he was satisfied with it, though.

What was best there for me was the dessert, Pavlova.

lovely and tasty Pavlova

It’s a meringue sweet, and I’ve always loved it.

Unfortunately, you don’t see it much in Italy.

It’s said to be this is a sweet made in the honour of the former great ballerina Anna Pavlova when she performed in New Zealand and Australia.

It’s the same English-speaking country, and Anna Pavlova also lived in London, so the sweet must have spread to the UK.

We had wine by the glass for this lunch, but including my husband’s vanilla ice cream, the total came to as much as £103.

I’ve always felt that London is expensive, but this was confirmed once again.

After dinner, we stopped by the Greenwich market and walked a little, but because of my leg injury this summer, I couldn’t walk around for long, so we headed back early.

We had a guide on the boat back, too, but it was a different guide from the one on the way there, and it wasn’t as interesting as the way there.

I think guides are better suited to people who are a bit theatrical and exaggerated.
