[ May, 2013 ] When we were leaving Chester, I told a hotel staff that we were going to York next.
He said ” People say that York and Chester are similar, but I prefer Chester”.
But when I got York, I did not think they are very similar.
In York as well as Chester, there are lots of half-timbered hoses, but the main feature of York is the narrow alleys around the cathedral.
Especially the street called The Shambles was nice and quaint with old houses.
Apparently there used to be many butchers around here and the oldest house is of 14th century.
Now there are many souvenir shops here and in one of them I bought a model of a house called “Little Shamble”.
The shop assistant recommended this as the most typical house in York.
Wrapping up this house, she said “You’ve got a lovely property without mortgage!”.
