[ Mar.2015 ] We went to Chartres from Paris for a day.
It took about 1 hour by train from Montparnasse station.
Chartres is famous for its cathedral which is listed in the World Heritage.
When we walked from the station to the town, we could see the two different spires – different heights and different designs.
The older one was built in the middle of the 12th century and the height is 103 metres.
The other one was made in the early 16th century and 115 metres.
The cathedral itself has got the history since the 4th century, but it was stricken many times by fires and was rebuilt every time.
When we entered, we found that it was partly under restoration work.
The cover of the work had beautiful reflections of the stained glasses, which was nice to see.
It is a big cathedral whose length is 130 metres and apparently there are as many as 176 stained glasses.
During the WW2, they were removed and stored in some surrounding villages.
The carvings were vivid and wonderful, too.
