See a play at Apollo Theatre

[ Sept.2013 ] There is a theatre called Apollo in Ermoupoli in Syros.

I heard that it was possible to visit, so we went in, which cost 4 euro.

Then we understood that there was some event here that night.

I tried to ask for the details, but all I understood was that it was free to see it.

So we decided to go and see it.

This theatre is said that it is a miniature of La Scala in Milan.

An Italian architect planned it and the building work was started in 1862.

Two years later, they opened it to the public with Verdi’s opera “Rigoletto”.

Surely it looked like La Scala a bit, especially the fact that lots of boxed seats were there nearly up to the ceiling.

The event we saw was some sort of play, which introduced the history of this theatre, including musics and dances.

I do not understand Greek language at all, so it was my guess.

The songs and dances were good, though.

According to the leaflet, this theatre thrived until 1950s, but after that it went downhill.

And recently they finished renovating it.
