Trumpet of St. Mary’s Church

Trumpet of St. Mary’s Church

[May, 2009] St.Mary’s Church is the face of Krakow, Poland. It has got a history since early 13th century.

The difference of the height of the two towers are noticeable.

According to the legend, two brothers who got the order to build the towers got themselves into a competition of the height of the towers and in the end one killed the other and killed himself.

But this is not true.

The truth is that the 69 metre tower was built to be a bell tower, and the other 81 metre one was built as a watchtower.

But here, a human being tell the time by playing the trumpet every hour instead of the bell.

The melody is melancholy and it stops suddenly.

The reason is that a watchman of 13th century was telling the city of Tatar attack by playing the trumpet, but in the middle of it, he fell by the enemy’s arrow.
