[December, 2011] In Evora in Portugal, we visited the cathedral and went up to the roof straight away.
The weather was nice and the view was wonderful, so went back down with satisfaction.
And then we found an explanation in Japanese inside the church.
It says that ‘ on the 8th of September, 1584, Sukematsu Ito and other 3 Japanese men arrived in Evora as the first mission from Japan and listened to the pipe organ performance here, which was rare even in Europe’.
It was a surprise, as if one part of the history I had learned at school suddenly came out of the text book and appeared in front of me.
