[July 2024] On the last day of our summer holiday on the island of Ischia in southern Italy, we enjoyed swimming in the sea, which we had not been able to enjoy until now.
From Forio, where we were staying, we took a bus to San Lorenzo.
From there, we went down the long slope to San Montano Beach.
Despite my leg being injured, I walked a lot this holiday.
On the way, there was a hot spring facility with a strange name (I just looked it up and it’s called Negombo), and after passing it, we arrived at the beach.
The beach is not big, but this time it is shallow and perfect for bathing.
Moreover, Negombo has taken care of the area and made it into a beautiful garden, so the environment is also perfect.
There were fish in the clear water.
Finally, I was able to enjoy a bathing time that is typical of summer holiday.
I guess you could say it’s like returning to my childhood, but when I bathe in the water, my face relaxes and I can’t help but have fun.
I didn’t feel much pain in my leg this time.
We should have come to this beach from the beginning.
This beach is shallow, so there were a lot of children.
Also, it was nice to see two wrinkled old ladies eager for sunbathing.
However, the parasol cost as much as €40.
There was no choice, so it can’t be helped.
Also, it was a shame that there were boats moored offshore here too.
There were 18 of them when I counted, but there were more later.
My husband said that there is probably a rule about how far it has to be from the shore for mooring , but there is no rule that says you can’t moor on the beach.
Well, I guess that’s true.
If you join a boat trip, they often moor offshore and you swim freely for a while.
Another negative point was that there was only one shop and that was crowded and expensive.
A spritz was €10 (compared to Dubrovnik, it’s a good deal, though).
I had a panino with porchetta, but I was a bit surprised that the bread also contained fries.
The porchetta itself was delicious, though.
On the way back, I was thinking how hard it would be to walk up the long hill, when I saw taxis lined up at the entrance to Negombo.
Thanks to that, we were able to get back to Forio with ease.
