The accommodation and our first meal

[July 2024] For our summer holiday in Ischia, Italy, we stayed at Airbnb.

For the past four years, we have always chosen Airbnb for long-term stays.

The Airbnb we chose in Forio, Ischia, was the smallest we have ever stayed at, but it was very comfortable.

Entering the gate facing the main street, there was a large site with other buildings, and our Airbnb was the one at the very back.

A large, wild-looking man who introduced himself as Pippo was waiting for us.

The whole building was his, and it seemed like he was renting out some of the rooms as Airbnbs.

Our flat was on the first floor.

As soon as we entered, we were greeted by the kitchen and living space, and the sofa here could also be used as a bed, but there was a separate bedroom.

The interior was based on blue, and the floor tiles were unique.

Pippo said that it was the room he grew up in.

We were hungry, so we put our bags down and immediately went looking for a restaurant.

It seemed like the town centre was just a short walk from the Airbnb.

There were restaurants lined up along the port, so we went there.

However, it was after 2:30pm, so most of the restaurants were closed, including the one recommended by Pippo.

So we went to Ristorante Marylu, the only restaurant that was open.

For antipasto, I shared a bruschetta with my husband.

My husband had seafood pizza, and I had seafood pasta as our main course.

My pasta was called Scialatielli, which is a type of pasta in and around Naples.

It was exactly like a short, handmade udon noodle.

So this dish was just like a sara-udon noodles.

It was filled with shrimp, shellfish, squid, and other ingredients, and the sauce was delicious, so I was very satisfied.

I heard that Ischia produces wine despite being a small island, so we drank the island’s white wine.

It wasn’t light, but had a nice fruity taste.

However, we learned later that it was a mixture of island and other wines, and that 100% island wine would be more yellow in colour.

We had no dessert, just coffee.

Still, the total came to €91.50, which was not cheap.

I thought to myself that prices on the island must be high.
