Walk in Bordeaux

Walk in Bordeaux

[ Apr.2016 ] We walked around in Bordeaux in France. The first street we walked in was St.Catherine street, which is billed as the longest pedestrian street in Europe. The length is apparently 1.2km and there were many shops on both sides. It was Saturday afternoon and the street was full of people. The shops were not interesting, though, as most of them were international chain stores. We walked with the map we got from tourist office, but after a while we realised that we missed the turning and we were in a bit of a shady area with many immigrants. Probably I must not call it shady where many immigrants live, but I could tell that we moved from the area where people enjoy shopping to a place where people need to shop, as the shops around there were selling cheap stuff.

At the end of the street, there was a gate, Porte d’Aquitaine. After taking photos of it, we went back to the corner where we had to turn. After a while, suddenly the Grosse Cloche was there. This is a gate with bells and it belongs to a church with a history from the 12th century. Going through the Grosse Cloche, the area we entered is supposed to be the most trendy in the city. Surely there were fashionable small shops there and also the square, Place Fernand Lafarque was nice with some cafes.
