[ Aug.2013 ] According to the itinerary of the tour we joined in Santorini, the next visit was Akrotiri ruin.
I was not very happy to walk around the ruin under the flaming sun, but in fact this was the indoor ruin.
How civilised! This was the ancient Minoan city which was buried because of the powerful eruption of the volcano in 15-16th century BC.
This city was affluent by trading with Egypt and Syria.
Their houses were 2 or 3 stories high and they had flush toilets.
Every house had some wall paintings.
Those paintings are now in museums, but our rather chubby lady guide showed us some photos.
It was interesting to see that the woman figures had nail polish.
Also, she pointed out that the older women were painted with double chin.
She was a very good guide.
I think the guide is the key to enjoy ruins.
By the way this ruin was excavated only 3%.
But because of lack of fund, they have stopped working on it.
So there are still a lot of mysteries to solve on this ruin.
