[ Nov.2014 ] The main purpose of our visit to Arezzo in Italy was to see some paintings that my friend wanted to see, but the weekend we were there happened to be the huge antique market day, so we could enjoy this, too.
According to the receptionist in the hotel, 800 to 1000 vendors come here from all over Italy, which makes the largest antique market in the country.
Surely, the entire town was an open air market.
We saw old books, furniture, jewellery and even some kind of scientific instruments being sold everywhere.
Apparently there was a case that a painting bought here for 2500 euro was later sold in an auction in the US for 4m dollers.
I looked up and found that this market has been held since 1968 on the first Sunday and the Saturday before the first Sunday every month and average of 20000 people visit there.
We had a very good weather on the day, which was the best condition for the open air market.
I would have liked to spend more time there.
