[ May 2016 ] Blackpool in north west England is famous for ballroom dancing. It was shown in the film, “Shall We Dance?”, too. They have an annual Blackpool Dance Festival and nearly 3000 couples from 60 countires come for the competition. This festival is held in the Winter Gardens which is a complex including a theatre and conference facilities. Unfortunately on the day this place was closed to the public because of some event. Instead, we could enjoy the ballroom in Blackpool Tower. It was really a gorgeous place. On the dance floor, people were dancing to the music which was played by the Wurlitzer on the stage. Everyone seemed amateur, but they all knew the choreography. Probably they practice in the different places and show the result here, dressing up a bit. Many of them were elderly, but some were young. There was one giant who danced unbelievably well. Everyone must have been enjoying themselves, but their expression was rather serious. We sat at one of the tables surrounding the floor, having cake and coffee, fascinated. And I was thinking that if I had been born in this area, I might have been one of them.
