[ Jan.2015 ] On the New Year’s Day, we spent the whole day in the nature around Bariloche in Argentina.
A local guide called Gabriela came and picked us up and then she took us to the hilltop where we could see this view of the photo.
I could see why they call this area the “Switzerland of South America”.
The building there is Llao Llao Hotel.
It was originally built in 1938 as a timbered building, but it was burned down in the following year.
So in 1940 they rebuilt it and that was the building we saw.
Although it is not that old from our point of view, for the local people this is an historic hotel.
We had a look at the chapel which was built at the same time as the hotel.
This is the area which was originally developed by the German speaking immigrants.
Although Gabriela was small, her hair and eyes were pale, so I thought that she might be one of those descendants of the immigrants.
So I asked where she was from.
She said ” I am from here”.
Perhaps her great grand parents could be from Europe, but now, people here identify themselves as Argentines without any hesitation.
