The town with blue flames

The town with blue flames

[December, 2011] A lot of the houses in Arraiolos in Alentejo in Portugal have white wall with blue flames.

I did not know at that time, but I heard afterwards that blue flames are protecting them from bad spirits.

In Evora, instead, their houses are mostly white with yellow flames.

Apparently snakes don’t like yellow, so they paint their home partly yellow to avoid snakes.

The story of snakes is more realistic, isn’t it.
