Catholic church

[ Mar.2015 ] When we looked for the aquarium in Paphos in Cyprus, we came across some ruins instead.

They are the ruins of the 4th century basilica and archiepiscopal palace and so on.

They are situated much lower than the current ground and people can walk on the higher passage and look down on them.

I saw a lovely mosaic floor in one part.

The church behind is the 11th – 12th century Ayia Kyriaki church.

It looks Orthodox church, but in fact this is a Catholic church.

Apparently in the early 1990s, the Orthodox bishop gave it to the Catholic expats community.

Near the church they were doing some rehearsal.

It seemed a play of Jesus Christ’s resurrection for the Easter on the 5th April.

The most of the people watching there seemed Indian.

By the way, last year, both Orthodox and Catholic and other western churches celebrated Easter on the same day, but this year, the Orthodox Easter was one week later.
