[ Aug.2013 ] The highest point of Santorini is 567m.
On top of this hill there is the Profitis Ilias Monastery built in 1712.
They said there was no local bus service here, so we joined a tour.
I was expecting something grand and dignified, but what we saw were two small churches.
One was built in 1924 and the other was after 1956.
Most of the towns in Santorini were heavily damaged by the powerful earthquake in 1956, so they say that not so many old buildings are left.
Now in this monastery only 6 monks are living, but in the past, it was very rich and had its own boat to deal with external matters and it was a centre of education.
In one corner, they were selling homemade wine, jam and so on.
