[ July, 2014 ] The Church of St.Donat is the symbol of Zadar in Croatia, they say.
It is built on the ground of ancient Roman Forum and some of the relics were being used as some parts of the building ( there are some relics were left around this church).
This church was built in the early 9th century and its round shape is Byzantine style.
I had seen an interesting photo during walking in the town and wondered what it was, and found that it was the ceiling of this church.
They do not use here for the services any more, but have been using it as a concert venue for 50 years as the acoustics are good apparently.
There were no concerts held during our stay, unfortunately.
By the way, they gave me a Japanese leaflet explaining this place.
I read it, but to be honest, I could not understand it well.
Maybe because the Croatian language is very difficult to translate, or it is translated from some document already translated a few times from the original, or Croatian person translated it into Japanese….
It is a great service to have the Japanese leaflet, but I felt shame that it is not working well.
