[ May 2015 ] On the weekend, when we visited Dartmoor in the south west England, our friend took us to a larger town called Bovey Tracey, which has a population of over 4,700.
The destination was the Craft Guild Centre.
Our friend’s wife is a potter and a member of this guild.
According to her, the guild has nearly 300 members and to become a member, everyone has to pass an exam.
She said “In Devon and Cornwall next door, there are many craftsmen”.
Perhaps it is an appropriate environment for artists to get some inspiration.
In the Centre, they sold a lot of attractive exclusive things as well as holding an artistic exhibition and a demonstration for children.
After coming back home, when I looked it up on the internet, I found that the famous story by Galsworthy, called “The Apple Tree”, is set around here.
I remember reading this book secretly during a class when I was a junior high school student and got teary eyed because it was so sad.
