[ Nov.2014 ] One of the souvenirs of Monsanto in Portugal is this doll called Marfona.
It is made based on a cross with some rag.
Apparently it is symbolised Greek Goddess of fertility called Maria.
People put this doll under the bed of the newly married couple at their first night.
Also, they put it under the bed when the weather is bad.
Marfona has got a power to drive the thunderstorms away.
Another souvenir is square tambour called Adofe.
In the past, this was the only instrument women were allowed to play and even now mainly women play it.
It was originally a Moorish instrument.
Unfortunately we did not have a chance to hear it, though.
