[ Sept.2014 ] We visited Lithuania for the first time at the end of September.
We did not go to Vilnius, the capital, but went to Klaipeda which is on the Baltic coast.
We had to change the aeroplane at Copenhagen and arrived at a tiny Palanga Airport.
I was expecting a small airport but surprised to see that there was no bank or ATM.
That was a trouble.
Lithuania will enter the Euro Zone in January 2015, but at the moment, they use their own currency Litas.
How could we reach Klaipeda, which was about 35 km away? We talked to a man at a rental car office.
After he kindly explained the transport network, he said “My colleague is saying he will give you a lift”.
How kind! My opinion of Lithuanian people went up steeply.
The ‘colleague’ was called Gytis and he took us to an ATM and to the hotel safely and swiftly.
He was a very nice young man.
According to him, the bank at the airport is open during summer.
When we visited, the flight seemed only one to arrive and one to leave a day, so I suppose there was little demand for the bank.
