[ July, 2015 ] The book we bought in Locri, in southern Italy, talked about a small inland town called Gerace, which made me want to visit there.
So we waited for the infrequent local bus.
Apparently, because the seaside town of Locri was attacked by Saracen in the 10th century, the people there ran inland and found this town.
It is a really pretty place with many stone houses on the hill.
I do not know why it is not more famous.
There were many houses with roofs made with stones.
I wonder if it is very windy here.
They were having a festival that night and many people were enjoying the preparations.
They said it was a food festival and ordinary families would sell their favourite dishes to the public.
We saw some banners and posters advertising the event, though unfortunately we could not stay.
We had lunch there, which was called ‘Starter of Calabria’.
It was mixture of salami, cheese, dried tomato and so on.
The spicy salami was the speciality here.
After lunch, we visited an empty church.
It was a 13th century St. Francis church, which was not used any more.
The marble altar was impressive.
