[ Dec.2015 ] The place we stayed in the Lake District in Chile was Puerto Varas which is a town on Llanquihue Lake, the second largest lake in the country.
The lake was lovely and blue and some people were swimming there.
Beyond the lake, we could see Osorno Volcano, which looked very similar to Mt. Fuji and the view here was like the one around Kawaguchi Lake in Japan.
The height of Osorno is 2652 metres.
Puerto Varas was founded in 1854 as a result of the German Colonisation policy by the Chilean government in those days.
The government wanted Germans to settle there where not many people were living.
In Germany some people were having difficulty in those days because of the 1848 revolution so they were ready to immigrate.
The policy lasted from 1850 for 25 years and about 6000 Germans moved here.
Because of this history, some houses in the town looked a bit like German.
Also, in the nice restaurant we happened to go in, the black beer was excellent.
