[ Oct.2015 ] The weather forecast, which was put up in the hotel lobby, said 99% chance of rain and 1% for sun for the third day of our stay in Gdansk in Poland.
We were not sure if the free walking tour, which was recommended by the tourist office on the day before, would be on or not, but we set off anyway with our umbrellas.
When we arrived at the gathering place, we found there were already many people and the cheerful guide, Magda, was introducing herself.
One of the first things we learned from her was that this town was almost ruined completely during WW2.
Not only German forces, but also the Soviet force came in and looted the town and burned everything.
This photo is the scene in Long Street, the main street in the Main Town.
These beautiful houses were the ones which were rebuilt after the war.
According to her, the capital city, Warsaw, was put before anywhere else, so the people of Gdansk had to take and use all the building materials from a nearby village.
When they rebuilt the town, they decided to make it look like it had before.
They did a good job for the surface of the buildings, but many of the interiors are different from the past.
